# SmartCloud 3.0.14 — Release notes ## Overview SmartCloud **3.0.14** is a maintenance release containing security and stability improvements. There are no changes to how you use SmartCloud. This note also summarises what SmartCloud 3 offers today, for anyone updating from an earlier 3.0 version. --- ## What's new in 3.0.14 - **Security improvements** — security hardening of the SmartCloud application and its installation packages. - **Stability improvements** — refinements to the installation packages provide a more consistent update experience. --- ## What SmartCloud 3 does SmartCloud is the Smartoptics transceiver configuration tool. It reads and configures optical transceivers through the SmartBoard programmer over USB, using the Smartoptics code catalogue. ### Supported transceivers SFP and SFP+, XFP, QSFP, QSFP+ and QSFP28, and the high-speed pluggable families that use the CMIS model — QSFP-DD, OSFP and SFP-DD. ### Reading a transceiver Insert a module and SmartCloud reads its identity: vendor name, part number, OUI, serial number, date code, revision and wavelength. Where the module supports digital diagnostics, its readings are shown alongside; the section is hidden for modules that do not support them. ### Configuring a transceiver Detect the inserted module, choose the vendor and part number for the configuration you want, review the preview, and program. Progress is reported as a percentage, and the result dialog confirms exactly what was written. - Re-programming a module is significantly faster, because values that already match the module are not rewritten. - Configuring a module to the configuration it already holds reports success and tells you nothing needed changing. - If a module is write-protected to its current coding, the result explains that the module itself refused the write, rather than reporting a general failure. ### Vendor-specific requirements Configurations that need special handling are applied automatically, including Ciena ONS diagnostic stabilisation before writing, and Cisco authentication coding. These work on all three supported operating systems. ### Tunable DWDM modules For tunable XFP and SFP DWDM modules, a channel can be selected from the ITU-T G.694.1 C-band grid. Frequencies outside the grid are rejected with a clear message. ### SmartBoard connection SmartCloud detects the SmartBoard when it is connected, including when it is plugged in after the application has already started, and reconnects automatically if the cable is removed and replaced. Swapping transceivers refreshes the displayed data within about a second, and the configuration form clears so readings from two different modules are never mixed. ### Signing in Sign in with your Smartoptics Central account. SmartCloud can also be launched directly from Smartoptics Central, which signs you in automatically; if the application is already running, that window is brought to the front rather than opening a second one. Your session is used for the application's own connection to the Smartoptics service, so transceiver programming is recorded against your own account. If your session expires, SmartCloud returns you to the sign-in screen. ### Languages English, Swedish and Norwegian. Your choice is remembered between sessions. ### Staying up to date When a newer version is available, a notification appears in the application with a download link, and it clears itself once you have updated. You can also check at any time from the Settings menu or the About window. ### Getting help **Report Issue** in the Settings menu sends your name, email address and a description of the problem directly to Smartoptics support. The About window shows your SmartCloud version, and details of the connected SmartBoard including its firmware version, serial number and temperature. ### Platforms Windows, macOS and Linux. --- ## After you update No action needed. Your sign-in and settings are unchanged. If you are updating from a version earlier than 3.0.13, you will be asked to sign in again the first time you open SmartCloud.
